
JAKARTA – A large explosion in Beirut, Lebanon left a large crater with a diameter of 405 feet or about 124 meters. The magnitude of the explosion also destroyed the surrounding buildings.

The explosion was so large that it shook the entire City of Beirut and sounds of explosions were reportedly heard throughout the country. The tremors from this explosion were felt even as far as Nicosia, the capital of the island nation of Cyprus, which is 240 kilometers away.

Provisional estimates of the devastating explosion that occurred on Wednesday, August 5, came from 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate.
