JAKARTA – The issue of collecting personal data is currently being discussed. Google Indonesia also responds to data collection practices by digital platforms.
According to Google Indonesia Government Relations and Public Policy Manager Danny Ardianto, his party will only do this after obtaining user approval. “From Google, I make sure that everything Google obtains is based on consent,” he said in the Siberkreasi webinar discussion, Monday, August 10.
Danny stated that this answered a question about the concerns of netizens who were worried that the digital platform would secretly hear the conversations of its users. Moreover, there are issues circulating, mentioning that many advertisements and social media applications seem to know the needs of their users even if they are not used.

With regard to account security, Google provides control for its users in regulating what data will be shared on digital platforms. Including when using a shared device, so that information is not stored just like that.
“Google’s mission is to present and manage information that is around the world and make it available to anyone,” continued Danny.
Danny provides five tips for maintaining the security of digital footprints while having a positive impact on data owners. First, smart in using the internet, including rethinking what will be uploaded to social media so that it does not become a problem in the future.
“Don’t let the digital footprint have a bad impact on us, our families because the digital world is the same as the real world, what we do will have an impact,” said Danny.
Danny advised not to upload sensitive information such as ID card numbers, PINs, passwords, home addresses, telephone numbers and signatures. The second tip, users must be vigilant, especially regarding potentially dangerous uploads, one of which is a scam.
All three users must be strong, in terms of security. Make sure to create strong keywords and not share them with other people.
Users are also advised to enable two-step verification, two-step verification, so that when there is suspicious activity, such as logging in from a device that is not normally used, Google will send an additional security code.
The third way is to be wise on the internet, don’t be easily provoked by negative content, let alone spread it. Finally, Danny suggested being brave, that is, having the courage to ask someone who understands better or looking for other references when they get questionable information.
