JAKARTA – A company located in Los Angeles created a machine the size of a telephone booth to deliver holograms directly into your living room. This is a new way of communicating in the pandemic era.
This device, made by PORTL, allows users to talk in real time with a person-sized hologram.
The machine is also equipped with technology that allows interaction with recorded holograms from historical figures to deceased relatives.
Each PORTL device is approximately 2.1 meters high, 1.5 meters wide and 0.6 meters thick, and can be plugged into a wall socket.

Anyone with a camera and a white background can send a hologram to the machine PORTL’s CEO, David Nussbaum, calls holoportation.
“If you can’t be there, you can send yourself there,” said Nussbaum Among, Saturday, August 8.
Nussbaum previously worked for the company that developed the Ronald Reagan hologram for the US library’s 40th president.
“We can connect military families who haven’t seen each other in months, people who are far away,” or anyone who keeps their distance to break the chain of spread of the coronavirus, Nussbaum added.

The price of the machine starts at US $ 60,000 or around Rp.882.5 million, which Nussbaum estimates will fall over the next three to five years.
PORTL also plans to make smaller devices at lower prices early next year.
The device is equipped with artificial intelligence (AI) technology from the Los Angeles-based company StoryFile to produce holographic recordings that can be archived. This technology adds to the cost of the device, to at least US $ 85,000 (around Rp1.25 billion).
PORTL is promoting the device for the museum, which will allow visitors to view holograms of historical figures.
People can feel like they’re having a conversation on a hologram, says StoryFile CEO Heather Smith.
“You can feel their presence, see their body language, see all their non-verbal cues,” says Smith.
“It felt like actually talking to the person even though they weren’t there,” he added.
